Interoperability of a European Digital Identity

With a view to the necessary interoperability of a European Digital Identity, which we consider to be a key success factor, national architecture concepts should be aligned with each other as far as possible and match in their basic functionalities. Otherwise, there is a risk that the existing fragmentation between the various national markets will continue, with inefficiencies or additional costs for relying parties and adaptation hurdles for users, e.g. in the cross-border use of the EUDIW. This is particularly important as the eIDAS 2.0 Regulation provides for an acceptance obligation for the EUDI wallet for relying parties with regard to strong customer authentication for online identification in accordance with Article 6 db.
